Milling

Milling aluminium, copper and steel

  • Milling solid aluminium

    Material

Solid aluminium exists in very many versions and compositions. The quantity of silicon or magnesium in the alloy can make a big difference to the machining parameters. In any case good cooling is a necessity.

    Material

Aluminium sheets exist in very many alloys, from very soft and easy to fold to hard and brittle. Soft plates mill less easily because the swarf often ‘sticks’ in the milling cutter. Cooling is also indispensable here.

    Applications

    • Flat parts
    • Door panels
    • Curves and false centres
    • Pocket millings and counterboring
  • Milling copper

    Material

Copper is much more difficult to mill than aluminium. Much lower speeds must be used with the lower cutting speed of copper. For this product we were compelled to mill 'dry' because no traces of cooling oil may be left on the end product.

    • Pocket millings and counterboring
  • Milling steel

    Material

For milling steel we use our 3 machines: for smaller parts the Phoenix, for plating the Woodwise and for the solid parts our Perfect Jet. The heavier the machining, the more cooling is required.
